water access and an array of passive and active recreation. -
Bird's Eye Perspective
New plazas, gently sloping open lawn areas and an overlook pavilion allow for a diverse range of uses and activities.
-

Initial Remediation and Permitting Actions
The multidisciplinary design team collaborated from the start to develop timelines and phasing plans for the extensive remediation and permitting requirements.
-
Context and Connections Analysis
Contextual mapping shows great potential for utilizing the site to strengthen bike and pedestrian connections throughout nearby
neighborhoods and the downtown. Ease of access from mass transit routes and highways express potential as a regional attraction. -
Neighborhood Land Use Analysis
Key characteristics of the East Side Neighborhood include high levels of poverty, large numbers of youth (40% under age 19) and majority
Hispanic population. Also crucial is the lack of recreational green space within the neighborhood (2.6% of land area). -
Conceptual Design Options
Multiple design options and layouts were presented to the City and stakeholders for input. The final master plan reflects a combination of concepts based on feedback.
